The long wait of Apple fans is over, and iPhone 5 has been launched for real without any special name tags, but simply as iPhone 5. It doesn’t deviate dramatically from the niche iPhone characteristics, but it is much more advanced, more than what was expected. There are no new surprises on the UI, but the new operating system, iOS6 is far improved. The iPhone 5 is taller, and this enabled Apple to add an additional raw to its canvas. Compared to the 3.50-inch diagonal length of the previous version, the new phone has a diagonal length of 4.0 inches. However, the increase in surface area wouldn’t affect the user-experience when it comes to making phone calls.
The larger screen is especially helpful for using a larger number of Apps and for a better web browsing experience. Additional lines can be viewed when reading through web content, while holding the phone vertically. If you read the content keeping the phone in a horizontal position, you would be getting some extra amount of width. Overall, you can view more content and get access to more information without the need for scrolling.
In addition to increasing the length, Apple has also been able to reduce the new iPhone’s thickness. Compared to iPhone 4S, iPhone 5 is thinner by 0.07 Inches. This makes the new phone from Apple thinner than its nearest rival on the market. A few features had to be sacrificed in order to make the phone thinner. Some of the features shed in the new iPhone include the Simultaneous Voice, EVDO and LTE features.
Previous iPhones had a standard 30-pin connector that was thin, breakable and not convenient to insert. It had a big polarity issue. It could be inserted only one way without any clear marks. However, Apple introduced a new connector in iPhone 5 to sort out this problem. It can be inserted with ease either way.
In terms of the processor, Apple claims that the iPhone 5 is “twice as fast” the previous iPhone. It is powered by the A6 processor that is almost twice as fast as the A5, both in terms of the CPU and GPU. At the performance level, it is claimed that almost all the features are as much as two times as fast as the previous version.
Apple has relied upon its own expertise in integrated technology to design a custom made processor core. Even though, Apple has not used Cortex A15, the design may have gone somewhere near the Krait core. The new iPhone is still using ARM instruction sets meaning that Apple continues to pay licensing charges to use it.
While at one end, Apple made a slimmer design with better performance, there is no sacrifice in terms of battery life. The fact is that the company has improved iPhone 5’s battery life. The phone maker claims that users can now experience 8 hours of browsing time as compared to the 6 hours offered by the previous version.
